Yi Qian & Carina Proposal

Carina thought she was turning up for a couple photoshoot.

Everyone else knew better. Yi Qian had quietly brought their friends together to help turn the studio into a surprise proposal. Photographs from their life together filled the space, fairy lights were strung around the room, balloons were waiting, and somehow they even managed to get Sushi, their dog, involved without Carina suspecting a thing.

Then she walked in.

There was a brief moment where she was still trying to work out what was happening. Then she saw the setup. She saw Yi Qian. And everything started to click.

The expressions that followed were impossible to miss.

Disbelief. Laughter. Tears. More disbelief.

And eventually, Yi Qian on one knee asking the question everyone else in the room already knew was coming.

I didn't need to manufacture anything that day. I just needed to stay close enough to photograph it as it unfolded. 

Carina's reactions, Yi Qian watching her take everything in, the ring finally going on her finger, the hugs afterwards, and their friends finally being able to celebrate the secret they'd all been keeping.

What I loved about photographing their proposal wasn't just the moment Carina said yes.

It was everything that had quietly come together before she ever walked through the door. The photographs, the decorations, Sushi, and a group of friends who had spent the day keeping one very big secret.

Yi Qian asked the question. Carina said yes. And their favourite people were there to see it happen.
